I decided we should update everyone on our life. This last month has been pretty hectic, even for us. At the beginning of November Dan and I had our physicals for adoption licensing. The doctor found a large lump in Dan’s throat, he said it felt as though his thyroid was more than 4 times the size it should be. He gave us a few “could be”s (including cancer) and sent us for more tests. Nothing can get you as nervous as the word cancer. For 3ish weeks I was a complete wreck but all his blood work came back perfect and there are just a few nodules that are probably nothing. We are breathing easy and have further confirmed our belief that God answers prayers.

When I called to set up our next appointment with our adoption worker it did not go as expected. I was told that we would not be allowed to adopt but we would be up for review in 6 months and than we could start the process again. When she started talking about this I kind of shut off and didn’t listen to much she said after that and cried for about 5 hours.

After a few weeks playing phone tag we talked to her again and got the real story. Apparently if we wait the 6 months they will consider us “infertile” which means we will be given priority when it comes to adoption. Her and I talked for while and agreed that we could start the process again in after we got our foster license. Here is where it gets confusing: You are not supposed to be allowed to be a foster parents and an adoptive parent. That is what we have always wanted to do, adoptive parents with Emergency Shelter infant foster children. The teachers of our classes and a few social workers we spoke to said we would not be allowed to do this because it’s “cheating the system.”

So here is our plan now: We are going to be allowed to be foster parents, we are going to be able to start that process in January. It should take 2-3 months, again it is the state and as we are learning you can’t believe “them.” Than we can start up the adoption process again, which means all we should have is 2 more interviews and than we’ll be licensed as adoptive parents.

We may or may not be able to do emergency shelter; I have been getting mixed signals on this one. One social worker said we could and another said they only want experienced foster parents. At any rate we are hoping to be a foster home for children under 6 months. This will allow us to have the foster children in our room and leave the kids room open for 2 adoptive placements.

Dan and I both were able to talk to our adoptive worker who said she can’t wait to help us be parents she thinks we will be pretty great at it. And since she’s the one we have to depend on to be our voice and help decide which kids we will be chosen for.
Now we have 3(ish) months to get ready for an infant. I about had a heart attack when I figured that out. Child proofing our condo, getting the kids room ready! Not to mention all the things we need to acquire, we have a crib, some clothes and baby toys…..I’m pretty sure we are going to need more than that for a baby! Lol thank you Craigslist!

I killed Peter today. Which turned out to be an adventure!
Growing up we did not celebrate Halloween, I still don't and am working on talking my husband out of it as well. Therefore I have never carved a pumpkin.
I did grow pumpkins one year. I convinced my dad to let me plant a couple pumpkin seeds in the yard when I was 5 or 6. He figured they wouldn't grow so he agreed. They did grow...and grow...and grow. They over took our backyard with their vines. A little info about my dad, when he mows he mows. It does not matter what is in the yard, small trees, toys, flowers, if its in the yard it will get mowed down! (One time he mowed over my brothers Arbor Day Tree) I begged and cried for him not to mow over my pumpkins! Being that my big brown eyes can melt his heard in a matter of seconds, every time he mowed he would carefully move the vines around and mow under them. I believe there were 3 pumpkins that came from that adventure nice large pumpkins. I don't remember actually gutting the pumpkins but we did make pie.

I said ALL that to tell you this, I did not go into this knowing/remembering what the inside of a pumpkin looked like...or smelled like...or felt like! I have texture issues. I can't stand for my hands to be dirty, I constantly clean them and can not handle grime at all. We don't have hamburgers or meatloaf at our house because I can't stand the texture to make them. There is also food texture issues but we won't even start on that.

Okay now I really said all that to say this: Pumpkins on the inside are icky! and I would have liked a warning :D

He's in the oven right now and I have cleaned all the seeds and will work on them soon too.

My $50 challenge

Dan and I have come across some rough times. Not horrible just not fun, finding a job is REALLY hard!

So after looking at our finances and talking it over I challenged us to stick to $50 a week for food and others. All our utilities, mortgage, gasoline (because when you need it you need it) and Binding Faith supplies do not count in this (most of them I've already tried to trim out most of the fat)

$50 for food and "stuff"

"stuff" is our biggest problem. At no point will I say which one of us has the following issues so I will say "we" We tend to buy things just because "thats what our parents buy" or "it's a good deal."
We also tend to eat out when in a hurry. And here I'll say it, I LOVE MT DEW. I could drink it 24/7!

On Sundays we will take $50 cash out of the ATM and that will have to last us till the next Sunday. I've already made a menu for the week:

Monday: Left overs

Tuesday: Sloppy Joes

Wednesday: Homemade Pizza

Thursday: Orange Chicken
Friday: BBQ Pork
Saturday: Pigs in a Blanket/ BBQ

The first week will be the hardest and the easiest. Hard because well we are used to wanting someone and buying it (with in reason, like a soda or pop.) Easy because I went grocery shopping on Wednesday so the fridge is full!

Also on the agenda:

Turning Peter the Pumpkin into Peter the Pie!
Finish the 2nd bedroom! I have been working on completely cleaning and decluttering the house for our eventual home study.
Homework but of course that never ends!

I'm hoping to get a lot of stuff done this week with Aprons. I'm hoping to make some sales to help make ends meet!

I would have posted this yesterday but our modem died..

October 15th is a day around the world that people light a candle and remember babies that were taken to soon, whether it was by miscarriage, still birth, or infant death.

I lit three candles yesterday.

One for my amazing Gabriella who 9 months ago went to Heaven. I don't know why she had to go but I know that someday we will hold her and it won't have to make sense. I still cry myself to sleep most night because I miss her so much.

Number two for a baby we only knew about for a few days, baby July.

And number three for my brother and sisters that are waiting for me in Heaven.

I was once told that it would get easier. It doesn't. But you learn to coup. You learn that the world keeps turning and you can choose to stay at home and cry your days away or you can put on a brave face and go with the turning.

My husband has been amazing through all this and I can not imagine anyone helping me like he has.

I want to say that I've leaned on God this whole time, I haven't but He has held me through it all. I got so angry with Him but I know in my heart that He allowed it to happen for a reason.

I lied, it makes me angry, sad, jealous and all sorts of other emotions.

I want children, lots of them! Growing up must kids wanted to be policeman, fireman, the president. I wanted to be a mom (and a missionary) I get so frustrated that God would allow or give me such a strong desire for something but than deny it. I have no doubt Dan would make an amazing father. It sickens me that I'm secretly jealous of pregnant women.

I don't understand why if there are kids that need a home, even if temporarily we can't provide that for them. Granted I know I have very little patience. I would have been content in waiting to try to have kids til well now. But we were given a wonderful surprise of a baby girl and it awoke in my hubby and I so strong feelings. Without her here, I feel like I'm slowly dying on the end side.

I don't know if we can make it 3 years without the pitter-patter of little feet.

All that being said, I don't believe I will be working with children for awhile. It's too hard.

I know there is a lot of bad mouthing the government and for the most part I agree.

BUT!

I have very low expectations, so I'm not usually disappointed. Last night we got our application and the truth. We found out that we are not going to be able to do both emergency and foster/adopt at the same time. Though with a little polietly being a squeaky wheel, the worker said she would see what she could do! We also got a more realistic time line, which I'm not to happy with! We were originally told 4-6 months to be licensed now it's 12-18 months. They also said we would probably wait a year before a placement. So 2-3 years before we even have a baby here let alone the 2 ish years it takes to officially adopt!!!!!!
I think I helped the lady realize that it was pretty stupid to turn us away as Emergency Parents when they desperately need them! It doesn't even make sense! They are appearently trying to prevent parents from becoming foster parents in order to get a placement so they can "back door" and adoption. (Often if a child is placed in a foster home they will have the first oppertunity to adopt if it becomes an option.)

We shall see how it all works out :-)
I'm still optomistic because again I didn't expect it to be easy!

In other news it's hot, and I sold an apron :-)

Showers of Blessings

Today we were able to pick up a crib free from craigslist! We need to get a mattress for it but it is very pretty.

We also responded to an ad for "a few baby things, like blankets and a few articles of clothes" that they wanted out of their house. Boy was I surprised when he brought us 2.5 trash bags full of clothes, a trash bag full of swaddle blankets, burp clothes, and towels, and a diaper box of "things they never got around to opening" which included toys and bath goods (still sealed)

I came home and went through to kind of see what we had. Lots and lots of baby girl clothes!!
I started a load of it in the washer, separated the few (like 5) pieces of clothes that had small stains. They have VERY good taste in clothing, lots of pink and ruffles.

After all this we made a quick stop too pick up milk, and of course my hubby was there so we didn't just get milk lol. I was able to get 10 things of cereal for around $0.89 a box (after rebate)
We ended up spending $17 total for about $80 worth of groceries!!

I feel today has been a very good day! Now to clean and work on some aprons!

**Still praying the rest of the tickets come for So You Think You Can Dance!!!!!!! I don't think I'll go if I have to go by myself!**

Balancing in an Unbalanced World

As of the beginning of June I became jobless. I knew it was coming and I had arranged a job for the summer to give me some time to find a good job. When it fell through I didn't panic, I wasn't happy about it but I figured how hard is it to get a job? WAY harder than expected! In the last 2 months I have filled out an application for or sent a resume to over 200 places! I have had one "interview" were I was asked to pretend I was a tube of toothpaste and put on a skit. I realize I do not have an advanced degree but it shouldn't be this hard.

The economy has given us a hard hit! At this point we are over $100,000 underwater in our mortgage and paying about 75% of our income towards the mortgage, JUST the mortgage! We have been trying to get a modification or something but Chase has lied to us every step of the way. We contacted our lawyers this morning and hopefully they can get through to them better than we can.

With no job you would think our house would be spotless and I would have a freshly cooked meal and a packed lunch for my hubby every day. Well that's what I would hope to do anyways :-) I'm not quite that good.

We have been working on cutting back on everything, pinching pennies, using coupons and general thriftiness. I am very proud of our efforts though we still have a long way to go. After a year of marriage my hubby sometimes forgets that we can't just run out and buy whatever we want.

I also have tried to start pulling in a little money. I started making aprons and am hoping to have a store set up on Etsy by the end of the week. It isn't going as smoothly as I had hoped. My machine likes to eat fabric, my fingers aren't as callused as they once were, and for some reason no matter how much careful I am there is always find something that needs to be "redone." Maybe being a perfectionist isn't a good idea, but if I'm asking people to pay money for my product I want every single thing to be done to the best of my ability.

In other news, our classes are starting on the 12th for foster/adopt. The 13th we will get our application and found out specifics for everything we need to do. We are trying to prepare our house for a few kids now. Looking for super cheap lots of baby clothes, toys, beds, and all the other essentials for children.

I start school soon! I probably overstepped what I can handle with that, but I've done it before and I will probably do it again.

My nephew will be here by the end of the month!

Gabriella should have entered into this world July 8th.

Dan and I will be married one year on the 26th!

The last year of our lives has been rough and amazing.

We are starting the road to adoption. After losing Gabriella and having another miscarriage we have decided that this is the road that life is taking us on.

We are going to continue to pray that God blesses us with lots of little blessings of our own. But we are hoping to adopt with in a year through foster care. We would do private adoption but the expense is something we can not do at this point. Not to mention that I feel so many people in private adoption seem to be trying to sell there babies to the highest bidder.

We are starting classes this month and hoping to get through the process and have a placement by December. Ideally we are hoping for a sibling group of 2 (I would take more but we don't have the space) under the age of 4. Preferably like 2 and infant.

Please come along side us and pray that by this time next year we are blessed with children (both through me and through foster care)

Its hard to be happy

It's just shy of 3 months since we lost Gabriella. I would have just hit week 27.
This has been the hardest time in either of our lives. I am not sure what either of us would have done if we didn't have each other or God. I want to say it's easier today than it was 2 months ago but it is not. I just learned to cry when no one else is around and try to put on a brave face.

Don't get me wrong I am happy. Especially on a day like today, the day that my Savior gave his life for me. But it is hard to be ok. If I did what I felt like doing I would never leave the house. Just stay in my PJs laying in bed zoning out on TV and eating ice cream. Fortunately the world keeps spinning and I must get up and choice to spin with it.

I can get up and make our home and our finances more suitable for a child. I can work on saving money. I can keep my house in tip top shape. I can cook healthy meals for my husband and hope that it helps us become healthier people.

I know we will be blessed with a child, hopefully lots of them (I want at least 6) Though as the days go by I'm not sure it will be with out adoption.

God is good, all the time. Even in the times we feel alone. Even in the times when we are left with our whole world shatteredm, He is good.

I was at CVS today picking up some stuff for an upcoming test the Dr is running.

I went as I was leaving the Dr so I had no coupons.

While there I see Colgate Max Fresh Toothpast for $0.75!!!!!

I went home got my coupons came back. I had $6 worth of coupons, so I grabbed 8 tubes. I looked at 2 of the coupons several times because the picture was "Max Fresh with Beads." and it said "any max fresh" so I grabbed 8 to the cashier I went. I handed over the coupons and the toothpaste he went to scan the last two coupons and I heard my mouth saying "oh wait those were the wrong ones" Because I was thinking "oh no those are for the wrong thing"
THEREFORE
the toothpaste was not free..
This tore me up all the way home that I had messed up. Than the little voice in my head said "Kb, it's $2!! stop! plus you can use those coupons next week for EBCs" But I'm still kicking myself.
It seems as though my brain is taking this money saving thing a little to far. I need to get this under control before I ... well I don't know. But you know what I mean!

DH and I went to CVS this morning and got everything but the toothbrushes we really needed.

I went to the one by our house to get the toothbrushes. Well they had marked thier summer and back to school stuff to 90% off!! Though I went yesterday and got it 75% off I was kinda bummed. Til I walked back to their clearance, where the softsoap and the Dove refills were only $0.44 a piece. I didn't buy to many because I already spent to much this week. They rand up full price and I said they were on clearence for $0.44 the cashier laughed and said "these I don't think so!" I told her nicely were I had found them and how I had carefully checked the tag to make sure the names matched. She's like "well I'll go look." I waited, she came back, didn't say a word and fixed them. Than the toothbrushes rang up wrong and I pointed it out. She got even more hateful and stormed off to the back. Told me I was mistaken (even though I'm 100% I got the right ones!!) anyways I walked out spending $9.83 and saving $83.79!!!!!! 89%

Ok This week is organize and clean the house week. I just got married, and moved into my husband place. I didn't realize how boys lived, but I now understand the smell that came from the boys side of campus at college. First came clothes. DH and I went through our clothes, donating over 3 big trash bags full. Dh still has WAY to many clothes but for some reason he is attached. Today was the bathrooms turn. Notice the bottom 3 shelves are mostly stock piled things :-)

Let me start by saying I don't believe in hoarding, but the lady at CVS was very nice and told us to buy as many as we liked to get them out of the store.
With that being said, I left the receipt in the car but here is the basics of what we got:

14 boxes of Flavor Ice (the lady really encouraged us to buy them and they still had more)
((they said they were 7.49 but rang up 3.74))
The $5 Ebcs printed for 10 of them (the other 4 they considered over the limit)
2 sets of $25 EBCs

4 Cottonelle Toilet Paper
4 X 5.99=23.96
got $10 EBCs

All together we spent around $28 and got $35 back

We donated some of the Flavor-Ice to the school at our 2nd Church.

The lady at CVS was thrilled for us and told my husband to keep me lol.
